If you are a mom like me who has a child with adhd, autism, sensory processing issues, or anxiety, this is the place for you! As a mom with a child that has adhd, anxiety and sensory issues, I was always looking for ways to keep my child entertained and screen free both at home and when we were on the go. The times he would be triggered, overwhelmed, and overstimulated was not necessarily when we were at home, but when we were out in public.
The actual idea of Simple Steps Learning started after a family tragedy. A few years ago, we lost our second baby when I was eight and a half months pregnant. That summer, I stayed home with my son while my husband was at work. Because I was so lost emotionally, I let my son play waaay too many video games. Pretty soon, it was all he wanted to do. Over time, the loss of our baby and his sister triggered anxiety. So I began creating themed sensory bins and playdough kits for him based on his interests. They helped him so much!
When our third child was born a couple of years later, I wanted to keep her off of screens as much as possible, and began using my background in Montessori education to create screen free activities for her that focused on all the skills that I knew she would need when she started school such as problem solving, fine motor, colors, sounds, and shapes. We started using sensory bins and playdough kits as well, and were amazed by how enthralled in them she would be. Now, we take a kit with us everywhere. If we go to a waterpark, restaurant, airplane, grandma's house, friends house, or even a park, a sensory kit is always with us!
Each kit is thoughtfully prepared for you so that there is no prep on your part. All you have to do is watch your child have fun and learn.
I am honored that you are here, and honored that you are trusting me with a small part of your child’s journey. I hope that your children, family and friends enjoy these kits day after day, year after year.
